In 1895, brown phosphate rock was discovered in Mount Pleasant, leading to a mining boom, and giving the city the nickname "The Phosphate Capital of the World." Within a few years, ten phosphate mining companies were operating in Mount Pleasant, producing over 25,000 tons per year.

Legend has it that the phosphate plant on the grounds cursed the property due to over-mining and multiple inexplicable accidents. Over the years folks got infected or hurt by working around phosphate and ended up scarred from head to toe (too much phosphate can be toxic, causing diarrhea, hardening of organs and soft tissue, and it can interfere with the body's ability to use iron, calcium, magnesium, and zinc).

The phosphate plant was eventually closed, then abandoned; over the ensuing decades, local residents began to mutate into unnatural creatures. Those who venture onto the property speak of hideous abominations lurking in the deserted buildings and surrounding woods.

But it's just a legend... right?
